I recently fell down the rabbit hole of link parties. I wasn’t so sure about them at first but thanks to the OG blogging mom Trista at www.domesticatedmomster.com I quickly figured out what I was doing and am now as competent of a linky blogger as I probably am ever going to be.
It is so easy- this coming from the gal who has trouble setting up her own voicemail!
First- Read the rules. They all different, they are all doable. Some allow one link up of a post you have written, some allow more. Some ask you to comment on the hosts’ posts, some just the post in front of yours. Most ask that you comment on the hosts’ post, share the post in front of yours and comment on a few other bloggers’ posts. That seems like an easy enough task right? I have four small kids and I can still manage this WITH the kids crawling all over me and Spongebob blaring in my ear.
The key to these linky experiences is the more you read from others, the more you will get out of the whole linky party experience. No really. Each post offers something different…and not just a good read. Just by reading through other people’s posts I have found so many other good link parties. The thing is most link hosts ask you to copy a “badge” onto your html of your linked up post, so you have SOOOOOOO much extra access to more than just the linky you stumbled across.
In the beginning I really struggled with finding the right link party outlet for my niche of work. I don’t do crafts nor do I take pretty pics of crock pot meals. Lots and looooooots of link parties seem geared towards these genres. At first I became really discouraged at the lack of link parties geared towards my parenting humor blog and satire laced writing. They were out there though…I just had to start reading the posts and seeing where these witty women (and men) were linking up their work.
As I continue to muddle through the land of blogging I will update this page, adding linky badges as I go.
Happy blogging and happy linking!
